Well the day has finally arrived, website launch day and surprisingly nerve wracking. Will people see my items, will they want to buy my hand made items? that is the big question.

Polymer Clay Mushroom Tutorial

Tools & Materials

Red Polymer Clay
White Polymer Clay
10.3 mm hole cutter
Pokey tool
Cutting blade
Foam board
Tile

Pasta rolling machine
Ball stylus (large and medium)
Dotting tool
Small paintbrush
White acrylic paint
Yellow ochre watercolour paint (for wash)
Glaze (optional)

Instructions

Makes 1 mushroom

1. Condition the Clay

Roll both the red and white clay through a pasta machine set to 9 so they are the same thickness.

2. Cut the Discs

Using a 10.3 mm hole cutter, cut:

3 red discs
3 white discs

3. Make the Mushroom Stalk

Knead 2 white discs together.
Roll into a cylinder approximately 2 cm long.
Use a pokey tool to gently pull a small amount of clay outward to form the ring around the stalk.
Add texture by drawing light vertical lines from the base to the top of the stalk.

4. Make the Cap

Knead the 3 red discs together.
Roll into a ball.
Place the ball on a foam board and use a large stylus in a circular motion to create a concave underside.

5. Create the Gills

Set the pasta machine to 1 and roll out the remaining white disc.
Using the opposite end of the 10.3mm cutter cut another disc.
Apply this thin sheet to the underside of the cap.
Use a medium stylus to gently press it into place.
With the pokey tool, draw lines radiating outward to form the gills.

6. Assemble the Mushroom

Attach the cap to the stalk using liquid clay.

7. Bake

Bake at 110°C (230°F) for 20 minutes.

8. Add Final Details

Allow the mushroom to cool completely.
Use white acrylic paint to add decorative dots to the cap.
Apply a yellow ochre watercolour wash to the stalk and gills.
Optional: Once completely dry, apply a coat of glaze.

A miniature red-and-white toadstool-style mushroom featuring:

A textured stalk
Detailed gills
Hand-painted cap spots 🍄

30th August 2026

Unfortunately I lost my supervisor and my best friend in June due to a freak accident, she injured her back and it was at this point we had found out she also had an underlying spinal condition which meant that she would not recover from her injury and due to her underlying condition would progressively get worse, we were absolutely devastated to say the least. We had the hardest decision to make and we chose quality of life over quantity. My heart is broken and miss my best friend daily.

2nd May 2026

Well a lot has happened since last year. I got diagnosed with cancer in October last year which came as a complete shock to the system. Over a 6 week period I went through intense Radiotherapy and 2 lots of Chemotherapy. It has taken while for me to get back so some normality following the treatment. I will be having tests this month to see if the cancer has gone or not, so fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻. I do feel a lot better in myself and ready to start crafting again.

We do have a new member of the team which joined us in November. Her name is Bambi and will be the new assistant which means the previous assistant the lovely Noodles has now been promoted to supervisor 😁.

4th June 2025.

Well first off if anyone has taken the time to look through my website, I apologise for the delay in starting my blog. I was all raring to go but with me still working full time and my partner between jobs my business startup sort of paused. But I'm back and hopefully no more major events to interrupt 🤣.

I haven't had time to work on much, but I have made a couple of jewellery pieces out of resin. I am just finishing off some polymer clay butterfly earrings.

And have listed some keyrings for Father’s Day gifts.
